• Served as Amnesty International’s Advocacy Director for over 22 years. • Served as human rights monitor around the world and as director of refugee camps and refugee ships.• Monitored several elections with former U.S. President Carter and with Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). • Served as Judge of Elections in Philadelphia and as Professor at the Washington College of Law (Summer).• Worked at the Quaker United Nations Office and served as the United Nations Representative for Peace Brigades International. • Regularly lectures at U.S. Foreign Service Institute where U.S. diplomats are trained and frequently testifies before the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. • Often interviewed by major international media outlets like BBC, CNN and Aljazeera. National Press Club frequently invites him to speak at their popular News-maker Program.• Regularly speak at Think-Tanks and Universities and was a panelist along with senior White House and UN officials in New York, Geneva, Washington DC and other places. • Kumar was a political prisoner for over five years in his native Sri Lanka. Amnesty International adopted him as a Prisoner of Conscience and initiated a worldwide campaign to secure his release.
