As lead developer for Lipton ice tea (away from home - Europe), I coordinate the development activities required to launch new soft drink innovations and optimise our current product portfolio.I interface with flavourists, suppliers and 3PMs, as well as our internal quality, marketing and supply chain teams to deliver high quality products to our consumers.

This role has provided me with experience in the many aspects of formulation science, specifically within the domains of emulsions and edible foam products. Activities that I’ve lead/been involved in, have included:- The identification and assessment of alternative functional materials through DoE. - Reformulation for cost-reduction as well as sensory improvement, linked to the development and showcasing of product prototypes. - Scale-up and process development activities in the space of both emulsions and edible foams. - Working and managing relationships with 3rd parties & suppliers to deliver on project activities.- The generation of insights via consumer testing of novel product concepts.

I was employed through the Unilever higher apprenticeship scheme - which involves studying for a degree in food science while working full-time in the Global Quality Assurance department of the Pepsi-Lipton Joint Venture.My core responsibilities included running the QA lab on site as well as conducting physical/chemical analysis of ice tea products against their specifications for the global trade sampling program. I am regularly involved in quality issue investigation and remediation which sees me working alongside an experienced international team of quality & technical personnel and the Lipton bottling network.
