I managed site investigations, supervised remediation projects, wrote tenders, assisted with business development and management and made sure the other employees got their five a day and drank plenty of water.

Advisian works on National Grid sites.I fulfilled the role of 'Lead Engineer’ on groundwater monitoring and sampling jobs across the UK, which included carrying out the health and safety assessments, conducting the works, managing junior staff, scheduling samples and writing interpretive reports on the National Grid framework. Advisian gave me SHEA gas 1&2 and CDM training.

Notable projects included full-time supervision of a 3000+ hole drilling and grouting job near Barnsley (including treatment of shafts and crown holes), validation of 100+ gas membranes on a residential site in Bradford and ongoing slope stability assessment on a quarry near Dewsbury. I also designed and conducted over a hundred site investigations, gas monitoring and contam/geotech validation visits all over Yorkshire.Building on my systems management skills from ALS, I managed ARP's HoleBASE logging, mapping and sample database system, and designed the HoleBASE configuration packs, templates, .AGS data interface and data entry modules more or less from scratch.I organised work placements for students from the University of Leicester, to introduce them to Geotechnical Engineering. Some of them weren't actually that bad (check my endorsements page).After some management and policy changes I left ARP to focus on contamination remediation.

I was a storesman, responsible for preparing the storage procedures for ISO9001 / ISO14001 accreditation as well as logging cores.I was made responsible for the file management system and the upkeep of the sample database. I also assisted with the building the bespoke database system. Learning how to store, interrogate and manage data made me the de facto 'lost pallet detective', which I dearly miss.

Suma Wholefoods is an an ethical, co-operative whole food distribution company. Everyone's paid equally and tries to get along.After a few months I became part-time shift co-ordinator and worked hard to keep the workload evenly spread and the members happy. During winter that meant negotiating 100+ freezing-cold hours of overtime between three dozen sleepy workers who already wanted to go home.

I provided geological services to a group of archaeologists.

I was a sous-chef, and made the starters and side dishes and occasionally peeled potatoes (25kg in one hour forty-five). I can still remember the recipes.I quit to focus on geology and philosophy.

I recycled waste and weighed vegetables. I still know a 5kg bag of spuds when I see it.Open to being challenged on this.
