Together with a team of 7 dedicated S&T Attache's spread over Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou I encourage and foster technological cooperation between entrepreneurs and researchers from China and the Netherlands. We also disseminate information about Chinese scientific and technological activities and maintain contacts with the relevant Chinese authorities.

AgentschapNL is an agency of the Dutch Ministry of Economic affairs. Its primary task is executing economic policy, which means carrying out various funding schemes.I lead the Dutch Eureka office. Eureka's goal is to stimulate international market oriented R&D projects in Europe. My role, besides leading a group of 20 professionals, is to create new ways to help European SMEs to be successful. I had a major stake in creating the Eurostars programme and am currently working on new ways to bridge the "innovation gap" (a.k.a. the European Paradox).My work requires creativity and the ability to inspire and convince others of the value of my ideas. International negotiations and cultural sensitivity are obvious parts of the package.

I was the Eureka project officer for ICT projects. Eureka's goal is to stimulate international market oriented R&D projects in Europe. In that capacity I was responsible for creating and maintaining a network of ICT companies, mostly SMEs and advising them on their international R&D strategy. I was also responsible for the evaluation of funding applications. Besides the Eureka-ICT portfolio I was also in charge of similar bilateral schemes with Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Finally, I was very closely involved with the creation of Eurostars, an international programme for high-tech SMEs (see also www.eureka-eurostars.eu).
