Maybe it’s about unbecoming everything that isn’t really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.” — Paulo Coelho After I graduated from high school, I had all the possibilities that I had ever wished for on paper, but the sheer endlessness of possibilities was overwhelming. All my friends had a plan of what to do with their lives. They all had dreams of what they wanted to become from early on in their lives. I never had this one exact vision of what I wanted to become. But I have come to realize that the journey to finding yourself comes with difficulties, like the quote by Coelho says. On my journey I have discovered different versions of myself. Instead of feeling the pressure of not yet being who I want to be, I try to feel happy about “unbecoming everything that isn’t really [me].” But who am I so far? I have been doing athletics for the past 15 years of my life. This is a version of myself that will always belong to me because I have grown up doing this sport and it has shaped me and my personality. Participating in competitions from early on has taught me to deal with disappointments. It has also taught me to never give up, as it takes a long time to reach your goals. I have injured myself and been unable to train several times, but this has only pushed me more and taught me to never give up. The exchanges that I have done in my school time have taught me that I love to learn new languages and to travel. It is exciting to pick up unfamiliar words from different countries like souvenirs to bring home with me. I love to read books and there I have learned that it is important to believe in yourself. Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” has taught me that you should always follow your values and goals even when you are pressured not to do so. From all of that, I have learned not to feel pressured when you do not know what comes next in life. I am still young, and it is normal to explore yourself and get to know yourself better. Currently, I am studying International Business Management at Hochschule Fulda, with which I included my passion for languages, as it is an international subject. I am curious to find out where life takes me. My vision is to create a life, in which I can still fulfil all my passions, and which makes me happy and excited to wake up every day. The endless possibilities of life should not leave us feel overwhelmed but excited to try out new things to shape our dream life.
