Never in my wildest dreams did I think I was going to teach Spanish. I actually laughed at the girl sitting in front of me in our Spanish IV class when she said she wanted to be a Spanish teacher--- I mean, I knew in third grade that I wanted to teach when I grew up, but I thought it would be something "fun" like History or Math. (This makes me laugh because I would be THE WORST Math teacher today! Eeeeek!)Plans changed when my Spanish professor begged me to apply for the month-long study abroad program in Toledo, Spain. I went and it changed my life and my perspective and I went back to Spain the following year for a second study abroad opportunity in Pamplona. And here I am today going into my thirteenth year of teaching all four levels of Spanish in the very same room where I laughed at my high school friend. I am married to the man I had two first dates with and we have a beautiful eleven year old daughter, a chubby house cat, and a few barn cats. Since becoming a teacher, my learning has not stopped. I have completed my Master's degree from ACE, (Teaching English as a Second/Other Language), and in addition to earning my master's degree, our district has been learning about Universal Design for Learning through professional development provided to us by Katie Novak, (one of the UDL gurus), and her team.I love where I am at but I also realize that we make God laugh when we tell him about our plans! (I can imagine he was giggling when I laughed at my sweet, Spanish IV friend back in the day!)I look forward to learning and continuing to grow throughout my professional journey wherever that may lead...
