I work within Community Mental Health Services for Older people. Clients include those with communication and swallowing difficulties as a result of dementia and other mental health conditions. Within this role I work as part of several multidisciplinary teams. I support people with younger onset dementia including those with Primary Progressive Aphasia in the community. I participate in videofluoroscopy clinics and am involved in dementia and wider MDT and SLT service development within Cardiff and Vale UHB.

Worked with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders. This was primarily in an MDT setting on a stroke ward, but also covered a mixed outpatient caseload (including neuro and ENT) and two community hospitals, which included a specialist dementia caseload.

In this role I gained excellent skills and experience in working with an elderly care/dementia case load as well as working with a diverse population, often working with/through interpreters.

Worked with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders within inpatient, outpatient and community settings as part of a community NHS trust.Here I gained sound skills in working with stroke patients on a community rehabilitation ward as well as skills in working with a varied community case load in people's own homes/nursing homes.

Gained a broad range of experience working within acute (stroke wards and general medical wards), rehabilitation, transitional care, outpatient and community settings. I provided assessment and therapy for both communication and swallowing disorders. The client groups I worked with included stroke patients, patients with dementia, Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, acquired brain injury, head and neck cancer, and clients with voice disorders.I also gained a wide variety of placement experiences providing assessment and therapy intervention to paediatric clients, including within mainstream schools, community clinics, an acute children's hospital and within a special school. I have therefore had experience of working with children with language delays and disorders, speech delays and disorders, learning disabilities and developmental delays, autism, and dysphagia.
