TRiO Student Support Services is a federal grant program funded through the Department of Education. I am responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring tutors, managing tutoring schedules and their salary budget. I must maintain meticulous records of our interactions with the students and compile a semester report at the end of every semester that details the outcome of our services. I created a tutoring manual to assist new tutors, and I provide one-on-one training for the new tutors. I also implemented a survey to better assist us in understanding the students' tutorial needs.As the English Academic Specialist, I provide assistance in a variety of forms for the programs English and reading needs, including researching current pedagogical trends, creating curriculum for our Summer Access Program, creating presentations for MLA format and technology needs as well as assist students with their writing concerns in whatever subject necessary.At various times, I am responsible for organizing, facilitating, and managing social activities for the members and taking them on cultural enrichment trips.My duties also include teaching two sections of Developmental English at Pitt CC, attending staff meetings for TRiO and the Developmental Studies Department, and serving on campus committees.The greatest aspect of this job is the ability to teach students how to empower themselves and gain the confidence and courage to work towards the completion of their academic goals.
