Office Manager, Prop. Manager Assistant
Loss Prevention Manager
I work in Loss Prevention, but this version of the field is unique to this company. This is a very dynamic company that is not afraid to adapt, improvise, invent and keep going. Many small businesses looking to grow into big businesses could learn much from this company. Its current success is a testament to that. This company reminds me of the old DuPont commercials: At DuPont, we don't make a lot of the products you buy, we make a lot of the products you buy, better. Well, here at Boucher Brothers, we don't make the beach, we make the beach better. We don't make it better by just offering to rent or sell things. We make it better by caring about our guests, our partners and our environment.
Receptionist
These people were wonderful to work for and I learned a lot about the local laws concerning condominiums, rentals and other property management issues from them. I was let go almost exactly a year after I started with them.
Barista
I really enjoyed my time working with Starbucks. It was a wonderful experience.
Chef
This company went under in May 2011. It was located on Lincoln Road in the space that is now Huahua's Taqueria.
Co-Owner
This was a small construction/contracting company that my ex-husband and I owned and ran. The "R&R" stood for "Remodeling and Repair". We specialized in remodeling and repairing mobile homes. This was due to the fact that there were so many in the area and most contractors would not touch them. We did other jobs, such as roof repair, driveways/sidewalks and even built freestanding structures and home add-ons, as well. Our crew consisted of five steady employees and several more regular laborers that floated between companies for work, plus ourselves. I honestly do not remember exactly when we started the business; the "September 2009" start date is a guess. Eventually, we shut down the company and moved to Miami Beach due to a combination of his health and the economy of the area at the time.
Industrial Chemist And F.O.G. Program Coordinator
This was a multifaceted job. One part was inspecting establishments that contained any type of food service or automotive waste. Permits were granted and renewed (or fines doled out) based on the outcomes of those inspections. Another part involved investigating the causes of sewage spills or illegal sewage dumps into the wastewater system. ESRI's ArcGIS was heavily used for the investigations. The maps and subsequent reports then had to be submitted to the State (DENR for NC, DHEC for SC) and any other governing bodies that were required, based on the nature of the issue. The third major part of the job was educating the public and sharing our information with other municipalities. This was done via pamphlets that were included in bills from the City, coordinating and leading tours of facilities and through presentations. Presentations typically could be anywhere from a half hour to an hour. For school children, I generally kept my PowerPoint presentations at 30 minutes and my outdoor speeches were on the move to keep them interested as we toured. For my presentations to other municipalities, they could be as long as an hour, depending on what I had to present and explain.
Geology Tutor And Museum/Lab Manager Assistant
This was not a work-study, but functioned like one. This job was hired on a semester basis, depending on the Geology Department's funds. I chose not to reapply after one semester due to my heavy class load and long commute. Most of this job was tutoring geology students. This was done inside the Geology Museum on campus. When not tutoring students, the job was to keep the museum clean and lead tours of the museum (or keep order if there was a visiting group, but no organized tour). Generally, tours were booked by schools or outside science organizations who were interested in the museum's specimens. In addition to the museum, I also functioned as an assistant to the Lab Manager. This involved helping him to organize rock collections, set up lab kits to be used in the classrooms and other tasks that he could use help with occasionally.
Math Tutor
This job was not a work-study job. This job was part of the Academic Support Center for CCC&TI. I was asked repeatedly by the Manager of the ASC to join them as a tutor because of my high math grades (my G.P.A. for the entire time I was enrolled in this school was a 4.0). I took the job in January 2005 and found that I really enjoyed it and was very good at it. My students ranged in age from 6 to 65 years. My curriculum ranged from basic math to Calculus I. I would have continued with this job, but I was notified by ASU that I was eligible to transfer right back to them much sooner than I thought. The commute would not allow for the possibility of maintaining the job and my classes.
