As a classroom instructor, school leader, and curriculum developer, I have made a career supporting and coaching young people in their growth as mathematics students and as future citizens of our world. My faith in our youth drove me to facilitate an inviting classroom experience with engaging questions and activities and rigorous instruction – and embedded with targeted student supports, mindset coaching, bountiful encouragement, and firm expectations.My education career has focused on schools with diverse student populations—racially, socioeconomically, and linguistically. I have consistently risen to the challenge of providing a high-quality differentiated education. This commitment started when I studied environmental science as an undergraduate, followed by some experiences in nonprofits focused on education access. I quickly gained awareness to the inequities of the world. I made it my mission to provide high-quality, rigorous instruction to underserved populations so they could gain the skills to obtain top-notch opportunities. My mantra is that I (or you or they) cannot do it…YET. With practice, feedback, and persistence, it can be done! One of my favorite parts of teaching is when students are working through challenging material and believe they can’t figure it out. I provide coaching and support, and in a few moments, the student is doing the exact thing they thought wasn’t possible. They can now do the thing they thought they couldn’t. To me, this is the basis of everyday teaching and learning.I expect from others what I expect from myself. I have a strong work ethic, an openness to feedback, and a drive to produce excellent work. I am a fast learner and thrive on building my skills. I love building relationships and then leveraging them to motivate people to be their best. When I’m not finding ways to enhance teaching and learning, the outdoors is what fuels my soul. I love hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, camping, and snowshoeing. I have hiked all the peaks in New England above 4,000 feet, except for Maine’s Bigelow Mountains, which brings my peak total to 65. Now that I have a 15-month-old pup, Bug, I have a renewed challenge of getting her to all of these special places that help me to connect with my environment and restore myself.
