Earthself is a neurodiverse and female-owned community interest company founded in 2015 with the purpose of optimising impact through EarthConnected coaching. Our vision is of creating a world where we ruthlessly challenge the status quo through a deep connection with Earth, self and each other. When we model teams, organisations and communities on systems and processes inspired by Earth, we are able to tap into its capacity for resilience, efficiency and sustainability to create businesses that positively impact people, planet and profit and create a future where all life in Earth flourishes.Earth has existed for 4.5 billion years and successfully sustained life for 3.8 billion years! It is the biggest ‘business’ around, providing USD $125 trillion of ecosystem services to humanity each year (WWF, 2020) and the original ‘purpose-led organisation’.This learning philosophy guides not only how we work with teams and organisations but also how we train coaches. As a coach education provider, we are committed to the International Coaching Federation’s values and ethical standards. We believe that the best way to put Earth at the heart of business is to create a coaching mindset informed by nature and Earth within people and communities, teams and organisations. In 2020, we became a Community Interest Company to embed our commitment to Earth into our governance structure.

The Nature Process®

In 2019, The NatureProcess merged fully with EarthSelf and its Transformational Change Coach Training Program. The Nature Process is a simple way of deepening your connection to nature by being in the body and experiencing nature through the senses. It can teach you effective stress management skills, promote creative thinking, and lead to better mental health. Our first online program was launched in May 2014. Over 400 people signed up to listen to the introductory webinar. 77 people from 13 countries around the world took part in the five-week online program.100% of the proceeds of the course were donated to the non-profit organisation, TreeSisters, whose mission is to help reforest the tropics within the next 10 years using the power of the feminine. Nearly £6,000 was raised. The following year, The NatureProcess online program launched again, this time exclusively through TreeSisters.107 people from 14 countries around the world took part. This time, nearly £10,000 was raised to support the work of TreeSisters and 2140 trees were planted in the tropics. We spent 2016 developing The Nature Process group facilitator training program and doing a beta launch. The feedback was, once again, overwhelmingly positive. In 2017, we ran The Nature Process facilitator training for the second time with a bigger group of trainees. In 2018, we independently evaluated the programs to ensure we maintain our high standards of training and education. This is what led to the merging of The Nature Process into Earthself's transformational coach training program.

Thriving Loss

When I started developing my coaching practise "experts" told me you needed to base your practise upon your field of expertise. I assumed that to be grief, due to my work with Pedro Project. However I felt limited by the title of "grief coach" because at the root of grief (and all problems that affect productivity, creativity and innovation) is a physiological/psychological stress response that if not dealt with keeps people trapped in a negative cycle of trying to implement change and then getting frustrated when it doesn't work After publishing my first book on the topic, Thriving Loss: Move Beyond Grief to a Place of Peace, Passion and Purpose, I knew I could serve more people, at a higher level, if I changed my direction in a way that would allow my full creativity to emerge

Nov 2010 - Mar 2013

Communication Coach (English) | Public-Speaking Trainer

Madrid, Madrid, Es

My objective in Spain was three-fold: learn Spanish so that in the future I can take my work into the Spanish Market, learn as much as possible about small group dynamics and learn how to successfully manage stress to achieve optimal productivity, creativity and innovationNew country, new job and new language is probably one of the most challenging environments to be in and this is where I started to develop the work I do todayWorking all over Spain on a government-funded project, I gained over 7000 hours of small group facilitation with 2000 of these focused specifically on training in public speaking. During this time I was able to study and analyse what motivates and inspires people to learn and achieve their full potential as I was responsible for staff co-ordination in one of my posts, receiving a promotion only 3 months after starting

Mar 2008 - 2013

Clinical Support Worker

Edinburgh, Scotland, Gb

The best place to understand mental health and how to successfully treat psychological problems is by working in a psychiatric hospital. Not only did I get practical, hands-on experience in dealing with a wide variety of disorders but working in an environment that requires you to wear an alarm for your own personal safety teaches you how to remain calm under the most challenging of situations. I also gained an insight into how the third biggest organization in the world manages and supports staff and the problems and challenges faced in a large companyAnalyzing the staff and the organizational structure was actually more interesting than analyzing the patients and has certainly fuelled part of the large-company dynamic element within my work today

Founder And Director

Pedro Project

After the sudden death of my younger brother I perceived a lack of support available for young adults affected by bereavement and was inspired to do something to help. Running a non-profit gave me insight into how difficult it is for an organization to achieve its aims if it doesn't have the right people working for it. It also helped me understand the importance of ensuring that the organization fully supports these people to achieve their full potential for productivity, creativity and innovationPersonally I gained insight into stress and burnout and a full appreciation of the support leaders need to be able to lead sustainably. Because the non-profit was in my brother's name I refused to accept any money from it and instead chose to work part-time whilst finishing my university degreeAfter university I worked full-time both in Pedro Project and at the local psychiatric hospital. My wake-up call came when one of my closest friends phoned me up and said in frustration, "I don't know why I phone you. You never speak anymore." Something had to give and working within the NHS had opened a fascination and yearning to discover how overcoming stress could help organisations cope with change and increase productivity, creativity and innovationI closed the charity down and re-distributed the funds to other organizations

2002 - 2008 ~6 yrs

Customer Service Agent

National Gas Company

The worst job I've ever had and perhaps one of my greatest lessons about organisational disenchantment, discord and profit over people (thank you national gas company call centre)The promise of a permanent contract and more money was used as a weapon to control staff. Any sickness or absence made you ineligibleThe time you spent on calls was monitored and you were expected to do a certain number of calls per hour. If you didn't, this also made you ineligible for a permanent contractThe focus was NOT on customer service but ensuring that people paid their gas bills - no matter their circumstances. After listening to a disabled woman sob down the phone because procedure told me to outline the steps to disconnect her gas because she had no money to pay, I'd had enoughBut the lessons live on and are incorporated in my work today

Working between a fast-food establishment and a cinema, I first learned that company profit came before staff well-being. Law stated you couldn't work for more than four hours without a break. However, you were routinely expected to work for longer than that if it was busy and were given less shifts (without pay) if you didn't complyAs a way of maximizing profits at the expense of staff, managers were asked to only have the minimum amount of staff active at any one time. If the establishment wasn't busy enough, staff members would be asked to go home (also without pay). Again, if you didn't comply with this you were penalized with less shiftsStaff turnover was – not surprisingly - high. Staff motivation and morale was low. There were no team building activities in place. As a result many people continuously phoned in sick and had no commitment to the job or the company. Even the free food and films couldn't compensate for how soul-destroying the jobs were! These companies - and organisations like them - are the ones that won't survive the transition to a low carbon economy. 72% of customers feel that business is failing to take care of society and the environment. Before your business can genuinely take care of society or the environment it must first take care of its employees

Architectural Firm

My first experience working for an organization (an architectural firm), when I was 17 was horrible. On a student placement, I was given the boring, menial tasks that no-one else would do, namely hours of photocopying and binding files. This did not inspire me to want to work for this company once I’d finished my degree… nor would I ever recommend them to anyone wanting architectural servicesThere was no encouragement or support to develop myself or the skills I was learning at college - only criticism when I made a mistake. I hope your child(ren) never finds themselves in a work placement like this!
