As a career advisor, former student-athlete, and current track and field coach, I bring a unique perspective to college student and career development. There are many lessons in athletics that are directly transferable to career development, including the importance of goal-setting, preparing for your audience (or opponent), and performing under pressure (in a game or interview setting). This background has influenced my advising style to be goal and action step oriented. Using my strengths in problem-solving and individualization, I encourage reflection as a means to determine an end-goal. In setting performance (long term) goals and practice (short term) goals, we break down daunting tasks, into manageable action steps. In this work, I guide students in recognizing and articulating their own strengths and skills through diverse experiences and story-telling.I strongly believe that viewing a student as an individual and encouraging their holistic development is critical to successful performances academically, professionally, and personally. In prioritizing individuality and being able to relate well with students, it is my goal to guide students towards making an informed career decision.
