Through a summer service learning program at the Center for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame, I spent 8-weeks volunteering as a summer school teacher at De La Salle Blackfeet School, a middle school on the Blackfeet Reservation in Browning, Montana. Oaklawn Psychiatric Center, Southbend, Indiana

Assisted in the review of therapists' electronic medical records for patients who have received care at Oaklawn Psychiatric Services. As part of my review, I collected and coded data, tracked patient trends, and evaluated a patient against 26 SPANDOC personality traits. With this information, I assisted the research team on analyzing these traits against the DSM-5 Section II Alternative Model for Personality Disorder in order to find statistically significant correlations that could aid in preventive and predictive diagnostics for a variety of mental illnesses.

Mount Saint Vincent Home provides services and programs for children who have behavioral and emotional issues due to trauma, abuse and mental illness. The summer camp is designed for children who need a lot of structure and guidance, so through curriculum/activity preparation and overall flexibility and patience are necessary. My responsibilities included assisting teachers within the classrooms, organizing and participating in recreational activities, and used self-regulate techniques with the children in order to continue the therapy process and learn classroom-appropriate behaviors and interactions.
