I first designed and taught a twentieth-century U.S. history course titled American Dreams to an international group of students between May and June 2022. The course covers from Reconstruction to the present and foregrounds the themes of citizenship, migration, and national belonging. Especially covered are the different experiences of African Americans, Chinese laborers, European immigrants, the Japanese, Mexicans and contemporary Middle Easterners, and other groups of people conventionally portrayed in US history through the lenses of capitalism and imperialism.
