This course develops an understanding of industrial processes and the impact on the environment from industrial activity. The course evaluates sustainable manufacturing practices including life cycle assessment, material flow analysis, industrial ecology concepts, and cradle-to-cradle design.• Assisted Villanova with planning and development of a Master of Science Degree in Sustainable Engineering.• Developed curriculum and teaches Advanced Life Cycle Assessment and Introduction to Sustainable Product Design class. This in-depth course combines lecture and hands-on LCA lab experience to explore environmental impacts of products and materials, allowing students to then design techniques to reduce overall impacts.• Instructor for the International Facility Management Association® (IFMA®)Sustainability Facility Professional® (SFP) certificate program, through Villanova’s Continuing Education Program. The assessment-based, interactive program teaches the knowledge, skills and tools needed to develop sustainable facility management practices.

Served as the Waste Minimization Program National Expert. Regional technical authority on the Waste Minimization Program responsible for planning, developing, promoting, and ensuring the accomplishment of the Regional and National Waste Minimization Program Goals. Worked with the Waste Minimization Team to develop strategy, goals and yearly work plans. Developed waste minimization outreach and technical assistance programs for hazardous waste generators and the states. • Conducted waste minimization and energy efficiency outreach activities for the commercial and industrial facilities across the nation. Provided direct waste minimization technical assistance and site visits for over 100 industrial facilities (including Sony, Aventis Pasteur, Eastman Chemical, Dupont, U.S. Steel, General Motors, Crown Cork and Seal, Harley Davidson, and other multinational corporations) resulting in significant waste reductions and cost savings.• Received numerous awards from the EPA, including two national Notable Achievement Awards and a Superior Service Medal for outstanding collaboration with industry, which reduced 100 million pounds of waste, saved 1.6 billion gallons of water, and saved industry $42 million.• Developed the Region III Waste Minimization Implementation strategy. Provided leadership and direction to build an integrated Waste Minimization Team comprised of Regional EPA and state staff. Continue to receive recognition from EPA HQ Office of Solid Waste for clearly leading the nation for Waste Minimization Program implementation.• Integrated EPA Reinvention Programs (Project XL, Common Sense Initiative, and Sustainable Development) into the Waste Minimization program. Participated on Crompton Project XL Advisory Committee for the Waste Minimization/Pollution Prevention study team, which identified opportunities for $6 million/year savings and 10 million pound/year in waste reduction for the project.

• Developed curriculum and taught graduate classes in Sustainable Community Design and Development. This class investigates the problems with the current system of community and regional planning and evaluates sustainable community design theory and practice.• Developed curriculum and taught Environmentally Sensitive Development Studio. The course integrated conservation development, green building, watershed planning, sustainability and low impact development into a hands-on planning and design studio for a proposed community. • Teacher of Environmental Science and Solid and Hazardous Waste Management courses at Ambler and Main Campus. Developed specific curriculum that integrates sustainable development, waste minimization, pollution prevention, and hands-on learning exercises to provide a practical job related learning experience for students. Member of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department Industrial Advisory Board which provides recommendations on curriculum, marketing, and program development.

Responsible for the design, operation, and preventative maintenance, of several critical plant systems having a capital cost of $60 million. Supervised up to 20 maintenance personnel during system outages. Performed troubleshooting and provided technical expertise for the operation of systems and components which include pumps, valves, instrumentation, heat exchangers, control logic, turbines, and air compressors.• Identified, implemented, and managed station improvement initiatives which created work process improvements and significant time savings. Facilitated a world record duration for a plant outage that was completed 6 days ahead of schedule with a cost savings of $3 million. • Prevented shutdown of the facility, license violation, and loss of $3 million by quick identification and resolution of plant equipment problem.• Resolved a chronic system component problem, which resulted in improved system operation and annual cost savings of $60,000.• Identified and improved a method for processing suppression pool water which resulted in an annual savings of $300,000 in radwaste processing and disposal costs.

Lead engineer for projects and studies on mechanical plant systems having a capital cost of $50,000 to $30 million.• Performed study on feedwater heater level control improvements, which resulted in improved operations and annual cost savings of $150,000.• Coordinated equipment supplier rework of improperly prepared support materials and provided Site Engineering support for $30 million condenser retrofit project. Project was completed on time and under budget.• Prepared Procurement Specification for Feedwater Heater Replacement Project. Incorporated state of the art designs, which improved performance and reduced maintenance costs.• Saved $250,000 by improving and simplifying the proposed design of a storage tank level project.

Prepared and reviewed conceptual, preliminary, and final CAD design drawings using applicable codes and standards for projects on various systems at company generating facilities, substations, gas distribution facilities, and water treatment facilities. Experience included piping systems, instrumentation, pipe supports, structural design, HVAC systems, scrubbers, and fire protection.
