I am the Principal Investigator of the Functional Genomics Laboratory at UTD. My laboratory strives to understand the fundamental molecular mechanisms of genome expression. We develop and apply new experimental and computational approaches to uncover novel control networks and mechanisms. We aim to use this knowledge to advance our understanding of human diseases and to contribute to development of treatments and cures. Our work has collectively been cited more than 10,000 times by others in the field. In the classroom, I teach virtually all MS and PhD students in the Department of Biological Sciences at UTD. In 2023, I started a graduate certificate in Genomics for all biology-inclined graduate students at UTD. I spent over two decades dedicated to teaching and research at the University level. I have instructed, mentored and trained thousands of graduate and undergraduate students in a broad array of advanced topics from biochemistry and genetics to genomics, epigenetics and bioinformatics. I thoroughly enjoy any small part that I am able to play in my students’ journey to find their professional paths and to discover their passion for science.
