Self-Regulated Registered Dental Hygienist. Specialize in the services related to clinical therapy, oral health education, and health promotion. Play an integral role in the dental process of care. Scope of practice includes assessing teeth along with adjacent tissues, and doing preventive and therapeutic treatment. This includes but not limited to treating periodontal disease with scaling or additional therapies (i.e. certain medicines and antibiotics placed under the gingival tissues). Key skills and proficiencies include the following: alginate impressions, anxiety management, charting, client communication, dental code of ethics, detail oriented, intraoral and extraoral examinations, infection control policies, local anesthetic administration, oral cancer screening, performing dental imaging and radiographs to interpret and identify signs of cavities and/or decay, problem solving, patient rapport, self direction, sterilization protocols, time management, and teeth whitening.

• Ensure the well-being of clients in the Community and/or Day Programs and promote their development. • Strive to create a professional and enjoyable atmosphere in order to encourage client participation. • Extensive training in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, behaviour management, and life skills. • Identifies social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. • Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community. • Provides input to counsellors and other professionals with regard to the development of client program plans. • Assist clients in attending and managing medical appointments. • Ensures that all daily documentation/reports are complete and accurate. • Find suitable housing and assist in finalizing the transition.
