The IBA ELP program requires students, working in the form of groups, to conduct primary and secondary research, analyze issues that warrant investigation and find cost effective implementable solutions for partner organizations.SSGC has been riddled with serious financial losses due to Unaccounted for Gas (UFG). Our project involved identifying and understanding the multiple factors contributing to UFG losses as well as developing new strategies and scrutinizing existing policies used to combat these losses. This project gave our team exposure to technical and operations related departments, an insight to the hierarchical structure of an organization and the limitations faced by large public sector industries.

Assignments / Tasks Completed: - Development of Key Performance Indicators for the HR and Admin departments.- Assisted in the compilation of the company's application for the "4th Employers’ Federation of Pakistan Employer of the Year Award" - Performed Employee Turnover and Strength Analysis with industry comparisons. - Updated the company's internal HR Portal

Tasks included updating existing financial models with recently published data; compiling summaries of economic and political advancements during the months of June and July 2014; updating records of monthly dispatches of cement manufacturers; recording recent production and price trends in the cotton and sugar industries; compiling and analyzing data on the banking sector from CY12 to CY14 highlighting the profitability of significant, competing, banks; studying exchange rate changes against the U.S. Dollar; and compiling a database of indicators that that would aid in promoting investment in Pakistan.

Tasks involved conducting research on a variety of businesses and industries that were in the process of being refinanced by the department. These included Excide Pakistan Ltd., confectionery manufacturers Ismail Industries Ltd., various independent power producers in Pakistan and the Pakistan Steel Mills. Primary focus was on the refinancing of Pakistan International Airlines and research included comparisons with world averages and other local carriers.

Tasks included the observation of the manufacture of air conditioning units and heat exchangers (aluminum brazed condensers and evaporators) and subsequently creating process flow charts, measuring the time taken for each stage in the production process and coming up with ‘Kaizens’ to reduce inefficiency as a part of the companies continuous improvement process.
