To analyse the effectiveness of the Loch Sunart to Sound of Jura Marine Protected Area (LStSJ MPA) in meeting its conservation objectives, large citizen science datasets from the Skatespotter programme were synthesised, manipulated, and analysed. Survival estimates and detection probabilities of the Critically Endangered flapper skate (Dipturus intermedius) within the LStSJ MPA were modelled using programme MARK. AcrGIS was used to map skate capture locations within the LStSJ MPA and R Studio to model differences in seasonal sex ratios in areas of the LStSJ MPA where anglers believe the skate to be using as a nursery site, threatened by seasonal dredging and trawling during the laying season. Passive Integrated Transponder tagging and measuring of flapper skate was conducted under Health and Safety protocols for working on Charter Boats.
