RESEARCH • DATA ANALYSIS • SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING • SPECTROSCOPY • INSTRUMENT CALIBRATION • PROPOSAL WRITINGI have a PhD in Astronomy from Indiana University. My expertise is in stellar astronomy, but I also participate in extragalactic projects. I have significant experience in proposal and grant writing, as well as scientific computing. I completed an international postdoctoral fellowship in astronomy research at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. I am currently doing instrument calibration work for the STIS instrument on the Hubble Space Telescope at the Space Telescope Science Institute.Astronomical Research: UV, Optical, and Infrared Spectroscopy (multi-object, low-, moderate- and ultra high-resolution), Metallicities and memberships of Young Open Clusters with Debris Disks, Frequency of Debris Disks with Age (MIR photometry), Chemical Abundances of Solar Twins, Spectrum Synthesis of Solar Type Stars, Redshift Surveys for UV-bright QSOs, UV Spectroscopy of Green Pea GalaxiesData Analysis: Extensive experience processing and analyzing FUV, NUV, and optical echelle spectra. Experience with low-resolution UV and optical spectra. Experience with infrared imaging, mainly Spitzer-MIPS 24 microns.Instrumentation Experience: Have used nine ground-based observatories, two space-based observatories, and twelve instruments to obtain data and carry out research and calibration work. Was a member of the HST COS/STIS team. Currently serve as a member of the HST STIS instrument team.Citizenship: American

I am interested in the chemical abundances of solar-type stars and the effects of metallicity on debris disks and planet formation. I am looking for chemical abundance anomalies in the high-resolution spectra of solar twins to look for evidence of terrestrial planet formation. Additionally, I am investigating the Li-age relation for solar twin stars.
My doctoral dissertation focused on the evolution of dusty, circumstellar debris disks around late B and early A stars in young star clusters. I investigated the role that stellar metallicity plays in the frequency of debris disks with age. I did this by determining chemical compositions of a sample of open clusters younger than 200 Myr that were observed.
Organized more than 100 individual events (e.g., public observing nights, hands-on astronomy in the classroom, workshops for science teachers, Science Olympiad exam writing and scoring, judging science fairs, an observing contest for high school students). I participated in more than 50 of these events.
I was a teaching assistant for the following courses: A221 General Astronomy, A105 Stars and Galaxies, E105 The Search for Habitable Planets, and A452 Extragalactic Astrophysics.
I taught a course for non-science majors entitled, "Stars and Galaxies."
