About Talia Barber-Powers

I am a data scientist with years of data analysis experience. I have enjoyed using my data science skillset. I am very interested in data science and advanced analytics as is evident by my masters program. In the past, I have been referred to as an “Excel expert", but I prefer other programs such as R and Python. In my most recent project, I created a time series forecast to predict when we would be receive cash from our carriers. With this forecast, Treasury was able to budget cash more accurately. Otherwise, I regularly created Power BI dashboards with KPIs and prescriptive analytics, automated data processes, or discovered data knowledge hidden in disparate data sources. I regularly used Python, SQL, Power BI, Bash, and R in my last position. Using my data skills combined with my past supervisor and product planner experience, I identified ways to improve data processes and insight in each Financial Operations department. My customer service and tutoring experience attribute greatly to my ability to communicate with vendors and co-workers in their data needs and in training or mentoring coworkers in a new skill or process. I am a self-proclaimed life-long learner. I have enjoyed all my data science courses in the masters program through the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. My favorite courses so far have been Machine Learning and Data Mining and Big Data: High Performance Computing. I love creating predictive models and finding efficient ways to move large amounts of data. Beside formal classes, I enjoy learning through work projects, through training sessions, attending seminars (e.g., Minnesota WiDS), and networking with womxn at my company in my field (e.g., WNBA and WIT).When I'm not working, studying, or writing code, I enjoy reading, playing video games and board games, singing or playing songs with my husband, spending time with family and friends, crafting, hiking, gardening, or playing fetch with our cat, Simone.
