Coro Youth Fellow
I was selected for the prestigious CORO Exploring Leadership Fellowship as a Youth CORO Fellow. In this summer fellowship, I learned CORO tools to become a more effective and active leader, as well as how to ask productive questions, create presentations, work in a group environment, and develop public policy recommendations. CORO's Exploring Leadership Program helps young, aspiring leaders to become active members of their communities and delivers opportunities to expand their network. During my fellowship, I was placed with a non-profit helping African American girls find career and educational opportunities through a pilot program created by Teamed Up For Good, known as the Real Futures Summer Experience. Our group of CORO Fellows created a Community Action Project to analyze and recommend solutions for youth experiencing homelessness/houselessness in San Francisco. My cohort conceived, planned, and delivered a youth houselessness summit that brought together experts to raise awareness and provide education for attendees. We also created prompts and questions for the panelists. This was done in order to educate the audience on the issues facing youth experiencing homelessness and what is being done to address this issue. I was also responsible for explaining the Coro Exploring Leadership Program and what our cohort accomplished throughout the program as it related to the summit as well as a survey for audience feedback. Through this event, I practiced my public speaking and presentational skills in front of large audiences by being one of the lead speakers for this event.Another project I was involved with was meeting with the City of San Francisco Department of Elections to provide it with our recommendations and findings about ways to make voting and election information more accessible to voters. My specific recommendation focused on expanding digitally accessible voter information.
