Associate Research Scientist
Alzheimer's disease research specializing in tauopathy and prion neurodegenerative diseases. I perform animal neuro-surgeries via steriotaxic injections, necropsies, and specialized brain dissection. My passion for pathology and previous embalming experience has lead me to being a key asset for animal perfusion, brain harvesting, terminal blood draws for plasma markers and CSF removal from mice. Mammalian cell cultures for primary neuron cultures with e17 pups use my experience with micro dissection techniques. My previous histology experience has enabled me to perfect my microtomy sectioning of both fresh, frozen and paraffin tissue samples as well as stain for pathological differences with both mice and human brain sections while using a nanozoomer or axioscanner to adequately obtain data for quantitative statistical analysis. I also design experiments for publication quality while coordinating other experimental designs for PhD students, medical doctors and myself within the research lab.
Ihc And Special Stains Histotech
Immuno histo chemistry technician. I cut patient tissue and run ihc on the night shift. I also work in the special stains department for 24 hour delivery of requested special staining for patients by pathologists. I coordinate all requests from over 20 pathologists via e-mail, fax, telephone, and mail to locate patient tissue, cut serial sections with correct control tissue, and stain for specific disease modalities in patients. I also back-up regular histologists with loading tissue processors, cutting and staining regular H&E sections (including thin tissue such as prostate), answering phones and making slides.
Autopsy Assistant
Autopsy evisceration for forensic and medico-legal autopsies. Evidence collection, fingerprinting, X-rays, photos as needed per caseAssisted in neuropathologyAssisted in teaching medical residents and fellows proper autopsy techniqueHelped with research publication in child homicide's by fine dissection and removal of organs and vertebrae needed for study. The delicate dissection consisted of removing the neck from foramen magnum to T1 with spinal cord in-situ in homicide infant cases. This could have easily resulted in decapitation if manipulated wrong; however all children were easily viewable at funeral.
Autopsy Technician/ Neuropathology
Forensic and medico-legal autopsy eviscerationCoordinated and processed all brains for neuro-pathology conference weekly and assisted in teaching medical students, pathologists, and fellows from John Hopkins about neuropathology.Designed a new fixation method for infant and child brains to fix brains more successfully Acknowledged in the publication of a Medical Textbook for Forensic NeuropathologyX-rays, evidence collection, and proper handling of bodily fluids and remains of deceased including photos. Worked and coordinated with willed body programs for harvesting tissue samplesWorked in histology cutting brain sections and staining them (both IHC and special stains) for neuropath. This consisted of embedding and cover slipping samples as well.
Autopsy Technician And Teacher
Forensic and medico-legal autopsies. I trained all medical students and fellows how to eviscerate organs, collect evidence, X-rays, and take proper photos of deceased for investigations.Coordinated the effectiveness of mass casualty homicides and which order to perform autopsies in to be the most effective.Worked with funeral representatives with the military for release of the deceased veteran for next stage of burial preparation and release to NOK. Received several achievement awards from families and fellow forensic pathologists due to my mindset to clean (the best I could) personal effects of the deceased and engage in proper placement of decedent's property to the rightful owner.Funeral homes and military embalmers were constantly praising me for my valiant efforts to tie off needed blood vessels for adequate embalming so their job was easier post autopsy.
