Spoiler alert: It all started with research—research born out of a restless need to find a place. As a restless creative, I discovered there’s only one way to quiet the nerves when you’re missing a creative outlet: you get creative. That’s how ColourSpree began. While I initially stepped into this role as a serial multidisciplinary creative entrepreneur, I quickly realized being a founder required wearing many hats. From creative director to UX researcher, I embraced every challenge. And it was through UX research that I uncovered the true heart of ColourSpree; understanding people deeply and designing with empathy.UX research informed every step of ColourSpree’s development, from conceptualizing services to refining their delivery. • I conducted market research and user interviews to uncover the needs of creatives, aspiring talent, and the cultural industries. • Using persona development and journey mapping, I identified gaps in career development, exposure, and access to opportunities. • Through continuous feedback loops and usability testing, I iterated on programs like the Creative Business Workshop and offerings like the Baraxana Arts Festival to ensure they addressed real user pain points.Being the founder of ColourSpree has been the opportunity I sought but couldn’t find—a space where guidance, support, and collaboration thrive, all built on absolute empathy. To date, ColourSpree has impacted over 12,000 people—including creatives, creative entrepreneurs, enthusiasts, aspiring creatives, and families—through its diverse products and services. These include the Baraxana Arts Festival (now a Biennale) and the Creative Business Workshop to mention a few.Be the first to know what we’re doing and how we’re transforming youth and lives through the Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI). Follow ColourSpree to stay inspired and informed.ColourSpree is an Arts Organization and Creative Hub

Baraxana Arts Festival (Now Biennale) By Colourspree

How do you start a machine with multiple moving parts? You get it started—that’s how. Then you pay attention to detail and iterate, iterate, and iterate.Nigerian and African Emerging Creative Talent needed a true springboard and a continuous exchange ground for culture, business, and education with society.Baraxana Arts Festival was created to fill this gap.Over the years, the festival has been recognized as one of 100 Festivals Worth Celebrating in West Africa by the British Council and has received support from prestigious organizations like the Goethé Institut, GIZ, the National Gallery of Art, and the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, along with industry leaders such as Sanni Mua’azu, Kelechi Amadi-Obi, Doug Kaze, Jemima Angulu, Fungi Dube, Alexis K. Johnson, and Atlas Duma, Onye Ubanatu to name a few.At the heart of this success is UX research, which informed every aspect of the festival’s offerings and delivery. Through user interviews, surveys, and journey mapping, I identified the needs of young creatives, cultural practitioners, and the community, translating those insights into tailored programs and experiences. I: • Conducted audience research to prioritize events, ensuring relevance and impact for attendees. • Iterated festival touchpoints—both in-person and online—based on user feedback and behavioral data, improving engagement and accessibility. • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to implement research findings into event design, marketing strategies, and stakeholder communications. These methods enabled me to design a cohesive, user-centered experience for all stakeholders while adapting to the dynamic needs of the CCI landscape. To date, Baraxana Arts Festival continues to stand as a testament to its purpose and will do so again, every two years, as the Biennale it has become.Follow Baraxana Arts Festival for the latest updates, because this one is juicy.
