About Tamara Alonso Blanco
Biotechnologist, Biologist, and Computational biologist with experience in genomics applied to medicine and enthusiast computer scientist on the making.I finished the Degree in Biotechnology from the University of Extremadura (UEx) at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (USA) thanks to a scholarship. After it, I continued my education studying for a Degree in Biology at the UEx. I finished it, at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), in the United Kingdom thanks to an Erasmus program. At UWS, I validated my courses in Spain to receive a BSc (Hons) Applied Bioscience, which I obtained as the Top Life Bioscience Student, and I received the Court medal. Additionally, my performance was recognized by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) with the Top Project Award 2020 and Top Student Award 2020.During my undergrad, I started my research career thanks to the Bank Santander S.A scholarship to do an internship at FARMABABY.SL. I also was awarded a scholarship by the Spanish Association against Cancer (AECC) to work at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology of Cancer (IBMCC). Throughout my undergraduate, I developed my passion for genomics and my curiosity for computational biology. This is the reason why I pursued my postgraduate studies in Computational Biology at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). Here, I learned a variety of computational tools/programming skills such as Python, Bash, R and SQL. Moreover, I carried out my internship in the Molecular Infection Biology Laboratory at the National Biotechnology Centre (CNB) as a Genomics and Data Scientist under the supervision of Dr Daniel Lopez. My previous studies and my international profile have prepared me to adapt to a variety of work environments. This, in combination with my exceptional teamwork skills and experience in Data Science, as well as my motivation to keep learning make me a good candidate to join a team where I can develop all my potential. Thus, my future expectations are mainly focused on Data Science and genomics applied to medicine.
