Over the last 5 years I have been developing my knowledge and skills in clinical simulation, focusing more over the last year in gaining some expertise in debriefing in clinical simulation.I have gained a lot of experience through post graduate courses, workshops and conferences . The most current was a postgraduate certificate in clinical simulation through Monash in 2013 and this year a 4 day simulation workshop at Holmesglen run by the Wiser Institute in America followed by the Sim health conferance in Adelaide in August where I was able to participate in master classes facilitated by leading world experts in their field of Simulation such as De Gabba. My other skills focus mainly around facilitating and developing professional development workshops for registered and enrolled nurses based on best practiceI am also developing curriculum fora new DN course that has a major reliance on simulation for 2015 Prior to my current position I lectured into the undergraduate nursing degree for four years with the school of nursing at UTASTo keep my clinical competence in acute care nursing current I work four shifts a month in the emergency department at the Royal Hobart Hospital; When I am not doing simulation I develop and write curriculum for whole courses such as the DN course we will run for the first time next year using an innovative approach with simulation playing a major role in the teaching and learning. I also write and develop interactive workshops around physical assessment, recognising deterioration, clinical reasoning and Venepuncture and cannulation.I really enjoy my position with NHET-Sim as I have the opportunity to see how other places are using simulation and share my knowledge and skills to facilitate other educators in how they can use simulation effectively as a teaching and learning tool. It also gives me the opportunity to travel around Australia and meet very interesting like minded people
