The mission of WIDYA is to create a better life for smallholder farmers. There are currently 500 million smallholder farmer households globally, and of this, 400 million live below the poverty line. 1.3 billion tonnes of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted throughout the supply chain every year. Most farmers follow the traditional agricultural practices and are unaware of new developments to handle the challenges due to climate change, inefficient irrigation, soil erosion, efficient use of agri-inputs etc. WIDYA has developed a technology platform, a Digital Agri-Food Ecosystem, that coordinates, enhances and facilitates the exchange of knowledge, material and money between stakeholders of the agri-food industry. In turn, this creates value in the form of higher yields, higher farm gate prices and supply chain efficiencies which is distributed back to stakeholders ranging from farmers, input suppliers, water providers, consumers, knowledge providers, governments and many others.My work in WIDYA is to support its mission. All the technology developments of WIDYA have been based on our empowerment framework. We strongly believe that it is important to develop technology solutions that can change the behavior of the users that in turn can empower them. Empowered individuals can make a greater positive impact to communities, regions hence the nations to solve challenging issues.
