About Dr. Tamara Knowles
I specialize in theological anthropology and spiritual formation. I study what it means to be human from an explicitly Trinitarian and Christocentric perspective and then offer spiritual formation practices to help foster and nourish fruits of the Spirit in individuals.I research the development of Christian ethics from an historical lens and seek to understand how these principles are developed in our daily lives through spiritual practices which can be seen in our behavior. The behavior can be as subtle as a slight eyebrow lift when listening to someone, or a direct as raised fists in a defensive position.I also seek to engage in interfaith and ecumenical activities. I'm a firm believer that when people from different backgrounds and traditions come together for something greater than themselves great things happen. Great things don't need to be large to be great, or create something larger. Sharing a meal is a small tangible act, but also great. I'm focused on realistic 'asks' of the community, which slowly build up to larger 'asks' as trust is built and difficulties are addressed. I believe the process of going from small 'ask' to small 'ask' requires faith and the doing of spiritual practices. This lived out practice can be understood as a type of social justice. Thus, while being committed to my own faith tradition, I embrace opportunities to lean into working with and along side people of other faith traditions for the common good.
