I am Director of Communications and Advocacy at St Patrick’s Mental Health Services, Ireland’s largest independent, not-for-profit mental health service provider. I lead the team responsible for internal and external communications and campaigns, media and public relations, service user engagement, and the development and roll-out of a comprehensive advocacy strategy. (www.stpatricks.ie)Walk in My Shoes (WIMS) is our flagship awareness-raising and education campaign. It seeks to promote positive mental health, to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination, and to change how people, particularly young people, think about mental health. WIMS initiatives include a Transition Year Programme, a short-film competition, and our pop-up radio station, Walk in My Shoes Radio (WIMS FM). During that time I gained extensive experience in the production of both live and pre-recorded programme formats.I am passionate about the dynamic impact a communications function has on organisational development and about the role of advocacy as a strategy for achieving social and systemic change.I have a BSc in Communications: Film and Broadcasting from DIT in Aungier Street, Dublin.
