I train diverse graduate students, post docs, and STEM professionals how to communicate to the public and then create opportunities within their community to practice and hone their skills in science communication.

I created a museum experience for people who were unable to attend the museum using distance learning. Tasks included but was not limited to the following:∗Provided interactive videoconferencing programs for school groups, pediatric hospitals, general public, underserved populations, and a variety of other audiences∗Designed and implemented Scientists Making Answers Relevant for Teacher and Students (S.M.A.R.T.S). In three years. I have: trained 7 researchers from 4 labs, created 12 programs, and have reached over 3,000 students through this program ∗Assisted researchers, professionals, and youth with properly communicating science content to public, suitable age groups, and special populations∗Supervised contractors, temporary employees, and volunteer staff∗Created the first Museum Teen TV program and curriculum. Teens created videos for the Natural Connections series ∗Developed the first Virtual Labs program that utilized videoconferencing to enable offsite classes to conduct experiments with real-time interaction with me∗Coordinated distance learning opportunities with, Smithsonian, E.O. Wilson, the NASA International Space Station, and the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium∗Selected by the Smithsonian to assist in presenting science content nationally for the Smithsonian Science How project∗Produced, directed, acted, scripted, casted, and voiceover educational and instructional videos ∗Coordinated, hosted, and exhibited during special events∗Co-led the STEM Career Showcase for Students with Disabilities 2014, in collaboration with SAS∗Co-wrote and received six grants in 2014-2015 fiscal year totaling over $98,000 ∗Contributed content for traveling exhibits and created educational programs associated with exhibits ∗Networked to create unique opportunities to collaborate with outside agencies∗Represented the Museum by presenting at conferences, workshops, and local news stations

I provided nature and outdoor educational programs, events, festivals, and professional development opportunities for the Martinsville/Henry County area. I did this to combat nature deficit disorder within the community.Below, are the highlights of what I achieved in that role: ∗ Manager of the Martinsville-Henry County Community Nature Initiative (MHC CNI) and its over $200,000 budget∗ Conducted over 250 natural science programs and festivals that reached over 13,000 participants in less than 3 years∗ Established committees composed of key stakeholders in the Martinsville, Henry, and Patrick County area to assist in community initiatives ∗ Developed the first nature and outdoor educational curriculum at the museum ∗ Designed over 40 custom nature and outdoor educational programs, special events, trainings, and camps for the Community Nature Initiative∗ Presented educational in-house and outreach programs for Pre-K to adult audiences∗ Created nature and outdoor educational program curriculum and other literature ∗ Designed budgets to conduct festivals and special events for the community and utilized spreadsheets to track expenses and revenue ∗ Produced the first Sharing Nature Natural History curriculum and conference with Sharing Nature founder, Joseph Cornell ∗ Directed and organized the first Earth Week in Martinsville, VA (27 environmental educational events and programs in nine days); adopted as an annual event in 2009∗ Planned and directed the first Kite Festival and Outdoor Fun Festival which were subsequently adopted as annual events ∗ Developed the first nature and outdoor curriculum at VMNH ∗ Co-coordinated the Virginia Environmental Educators Conference 2008∗ Developed content and helped design museum exhibits
