Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioner (Emhp)Nelft Nhs Foundation Trust Oct 2019 - Jan 2021London, United KingdomEmployed by North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT). Training at University College London (UCL) and the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families. Working in primary/secondary schools and colleges around Thurrock, Essex. EMHP is a new role created by the government in 2019 as a response to the Government Green Paper, 'Transforming Children and Young People's Mental Health Provision: a green paper'. The new roles have been created as part of the Government’s new plans to put in new Mental Health Support Teams in all state-run primary and secondary schools and colleges. Part of their new strategy to try and decrease children’s mental health waiting lists of CAMHS from 12 weeks to 4 weeks by taking on their cases and to increase the availability of mental health for young people, as well as focusing on early intervention and prevention. In 2019 they started running a pilot of 7 trailblazer sites across the country and testing out different ways of working by training a select number of EMPHs, and eventually being implemented in most state-run primary and secondary schools and colleges by 2022. The new EMHP workforce will be trained to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people, working across educational settings in England. Will provide direct, rapid access, low-intensity evidence-based treatment interventions for mild to moderate mental health difficulties including anxiety, low-mood/depression and common behaviour problems. Trained to offer one-to-one sessions, bespoke groupwork within the school setting, as well as signposting on to other appropriate interventions for children and young people with mental health difficulties when needed. I gained a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Educational Mental Health Practice (EMHP) from UCL and the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families when training to become an EMHP. -
