About Tamara Tamimi

I am a Palestinian from Jerusalem, and hold a B.Sc in Biology with a minor in English Literature from Birzeit University, and an MA in Human Rights Law from SOAS, University of London, where I focused in my studies on gender equality and the Palestine question. For my MA dissertation entitled “Destruction of Property and Unlawful Transfer in East Jerusalem: Reasonable Basis to Allege War Crimes,” I received the Sarah Spells Prize for the Best MA Dissertation of the 2015-16 academic year.Currently, I am pursuing a multidisciplinary PhD at Queen University Belfast's School of Law focusing on international law and the Palestine question, in addition to providing consultancy services to Palestinian and international organisations, locally, regionally and internationally, and in research, advocacy, political economy analysis, programme development and programme evaluation. In terms of research, my expertise span various areas including economic and social rights, interaction between human rights and humanitarian law, international criminal justice, forcible displacement, settler colonialism, protection from violence, and gender equality with a focus on Jerusalem and Bedouin communities in the Jerusalem periphery. Furthermore, I have published a number of research studies, articles and chapters on violence against women, right to education, house demolitions in Jerusalem, revocation of residency in Jerusalem, prospects for accountability for Israeli occupation policy in Jerusalem, displacement of Palestinian Bedouins and its gendered dimensions, exploitation of legal pluralism by Israel to advance its settler colonial endeavours, and ICC jurisdiction in Palestine in a number of peer-reviewed journals, edited books, and by Palestinian civil society organisations. Since 2011, through full-time and part-time jobs, alongside consultancy work, I have accumulated professional work experience in translation, administration, coordination, fundraising, programme development, communications, organisational development, monitoring and evaluation, research, training and political economy analysis across the fields of education, contemporary art, gender equality, youth empowerment, good governance, democracy, human rights and political dialogue.I am passionate about working in research and programme development in issues pertaining to economic and social rights and particularly right to education, gender equality, Palestinian national rights and the wider framework of effectiveness of international law to the Palestinian cause.
