For example, during the Exploration stage, environmental services are often contracted to quantify the mineral claim. The Development stage requires financial analysis and planning, while Pre-production requires design and construction services, as well as large amounts of equipment. The Operations phase requires numerous services, from transportation to repairs, while most of the Reclamation function is contracted out. Working with Dr.Roslyn Kunin and Associates, Mahigan Consulting explored:● How can these supplier opportunities be accessed and maximized? ● How can First Nations and Aboriginal suppliers be supported in this industry? With evolving political and industrial landscape, there is no doubt that Aboriginal companies are a valuable, growing, and often under-utilized resource, which is why many organizations are working to increase and support Aboriginal procurement in the mining sector. The explosion of growth in Aboriginal businesses is remarkable even when the substantial growth in the general Aboriginal population is taken into consideration.
