TAMARA TOLEDO has worked in the arts sector for over 15 years. She is a graduate of OCAD University, holds an MFA and is currently a SSHRC PhD candidate in Art History and Visual Culture at York University. She is co-founder of the Allende Arts Festival and of Latin American Canadian Art Projects - LACAP, a Toronto-based non profit arts organization. Toledo has curated numerous group and solo exhibitions, designed the Latin American Speakers Series inviting internationally renowned contemporary artists and curators to Toronto, and has presented various platforms to articulate and discuss issues of identity and intercultural dynamics in contemporary art. She has presented her curatorial work at various conferences in Montreal, New York, Chicago, Vancouver and Toronto. Her writing has appeared in ARM Journal, C Magazine, Fuse, Canadian Art, and Latin American and Latinx Visual Culture Journal form the University of California. She is recipient of grants and awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, among others. Her practice often follows an interdisciplinary approach and touches on notions of memory and trauma, race and politics, gender and intersectional practices, diasporas and transnationalism, issues of power, equity and representation, and international artistic-cultural interaction. Toledo is presently the Director/Curator of Sur Gallery and holds a one-year Art Canada Institute Redefining Canadian Art History Fellowship.
