Worked on a team of four undergraduate students, a PhD student, and physician to develop and test upconversion nanoparticle (UCNPs) for photodynamic therapy (PDT) for non-invasive treatment to target and treat cancer cells. Enhanced tissue penetration depth and optimized singlet oxygen production to kill cancer cells through surface modification of UCNPs to demonstrate high Upconversion luminescence efficiency and to have hydrophilic surface characteristics that are compatible with biomolecules.
