About Tamer Asfahani

The founder and director of Checkpoint, Tamer is dedicated to changing our perception of learning and the technology we use to enable learning. Advocate of gaming cultural wealth and the benefit gaming has, Tamer has spent years developing a pedagogy through Checkpoint to help us benefit from our digital fluency. Driven by the failure of governments and education systems globally during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the hypocrisy around "screentime", Tamer focused on showcasing the benefits of gaming on well being, education and as a social platform for children. This led to a partnership and study on the impact of gaming in education with Brunel University which proved incredibly successful.Tamer is also an award winning producer and journalist who has worked across print, broadcast (TV and radio) and online. Specialities include audience identification, high quality journalism and broadcast production. Consultant in localisation and video game development.Bilingual in Arabic.

I wanted to push the boundaries of possibility in broadcasting. I wanted to combine the best of audio and video, something I tried to push at talkRADIO, but was unable to do. RT and Sputnik gave us the resources I needed to prove the next generation of broadcasting. I was responsible for taking radio programme (George Galloway's Mother of All Talk Shows) to a new and exciting platform combining the best of radio and TV. Created, curated and launched a new radio show across RT's network and the Sputnik network. The show goes out simultaneously across TV and radio as well as online. The first programme of it's kind to broadcast simultaneously, multi-cam set up, with guests over Skype and in the studio as well as audience participation over the phone and Skype. I launched in July 2019 and on leaving in September of the same year, we had built a global viewership of around 250,000 on Facebook - not including listenership figures. The show has since been broadcasting on more platforms and is one of the most popular streams on Facebook.
