The focus on improving teacher practice through effective and meaningful professional development drew me to this position. Since starting in this role in the Human Resources Department at the San Diego County Office of Education, I’ve gained a broader view of what it means for an educator to grow along the career continuum.I developed two teacher support programs in my role.Support Program for National Board teacher candidates: In this role, I recruit, support, and lead over 10 support providers and 100+ teacher candidates. I’ve also forged a variety of partnerships with organizations like California Teachers Association and Stanford National Board Resource Center. Traditionally, candidate support is offered face-to-face, leaving many teachers without support. I built a community of support through Canvas. Online is a way to offer quality online support to any teacher in the United States. Added Authorizations for Special Education: In this role, I recruit and coordinate 2 cohorts of 40 teacher candidates, 15 coaches, 10 instructors, 5 Advisory Committee members per year. This is an accredited program offered mostly online with a personal coach component. The most rewarding program I co-designed and facilitated was a 4-day Coaching for Education Leaders series. In this training, I created an engaging learning experience focused on the following: *Building verbal and nonverbal communication skills *Leading structured, growth-focused conversations *Exploring a variety of models of change theoryIn a supportive role, I help facilitate and work with district teams throughout San Diego as they work through a series of steps to develop a growth-based teacher evaluation process. My expertise and confidence in leadership have grown exponentially in the last few years. Leadership is a practice. It requires dedication and a focus on excellence. I enjoy the challenge and the joy of learning.

WRITE is a national Academic Excellence model for sustained professional development in writing. During my 5+ years as a Coordinator there, I analyzed WRITE’s elementary model, revised and developed curriculum, and restructured the program for grade spans witing grades K-6 to meet the needs of WRITE’s clients statewide. I also developed and aligned curriculum with Common Core State Standards (CCSS), provided professional learning to teachers and administrators across the state, and presented at many statewide conferences. My focus at WRITE went beyond developing and training curriculum: I strived to build the capacity of teacher leaders and administrators statewide. I believe in building sustainability beyond any project. For me, the only way to reform education is to invest in programs that change practice over time. I’m proud to say my time with WRITE empowered hundreds of teachers to become confident writing teachers.
