The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) and the Office of Workforce Innovation (OWINN) are braiding together large programmatic pieces of statewide workforce recovery efforts through enhancements to its career navigation system featuring virtual reality content. Accessible from the public library, these tools will support precision career navigation and requisite industry recognized certification / credential training in healthcare, advanced manufacturing, logistics, IT/ software development - all high demand Nevada industries. Project SANDI aims to help individuals cut the time it takes to understand the labor market, find career possibilities that lead to living wage jobs, get trained and get back to work.

Relying on a dedicated staff work provides instrumental services to community libraries, helping to ensure they remain vital and an integral part of the Nevada communities they serve. Highlights include launch of the Nevada XR Libraries Pilot, which in phase I introduced augmented and virtual reality into 15 public libraries across Nevada and in phase II adds five additional branches and Nevada's three rural bookmobiles. Additionally, through IMLS funds, have created the first ever 3D learning asset in cooperation with the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) and vendors. CSN will pilot in its classrooms a first-to-the-world virtual reality simulation for its dialysis technician certification, and Nevada's public libraries will pilot using the same content for workforce development. The priorities of the Nevada State Council on Libraries and Literacy are also guided through the Library and Development Services group. As a library administrator I oversaw planning, organization, coordination, communication and monitoring of library programs and activities for the fifteen branch Jackson County Library District. Day-to-day library operations included but were not limited to: budget preparation, adoption and management; reference; collection development and de-selection; circulation; programming; outreach; staff recruitment, training and development; facility issues; space planning; board relations; policy development; compliance and most importantly, institutional advancement. I led development of Jackson County’s 2016–2021 five-year strategy for library services. The strategy will continue the alignment of library spaces and programming to meet the needs of the many diverse communities within Jackson County. Approximately 1,000 people participated in this strategic planning process in all 15 communities.

My primary responsibilities include working toward fulfilling the organizational vision of the Carson City Library as the cultural center and information provider for the community.Specifically, day to day, I facilitate and manage all aspects of a comprehensive development program. This includes the dedicated focus required to most effectively identify, cultivate, engage, and steward library donors and grow the development program. I also share responsibility with the Library Director for building community support for library services within city government and externally in the corporate, nonprofit, educational, cultural and civic community. I am a spokesperson for the library on a wide variety of issues, especially those in the fundraising/development area, and I assume leadership roles for special strategic initiatives and projects as assigned by the Library Director. I also seek, acquire and manage external public and private grants for the library in conjunction with library staff. I respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive issues with community organizations and library customers. And, I may act as the Library Director in the absence of the Library Director with full authority to make commitments. I bring energy and commitment to the job; and I am deeply commitment to the Library, Carson City and our future success.

I led development of a 2014 - 2019 strategic plan that included a robust space plan and point of service transitions. I was the project manager for two Library Services Technology Act (LSTA) programs, of note was a first of its kind in the U.S. that brought at Manufacturing Technician 1 or MT1 credential to the public library, which enabled patrons to earn the industry recognized credential through the library, becoming preferred candidates in area advanced manufacturing concerns, to include Tesla and Panasonic.

My responsibilities included assisting with planning, organizing, facilitating and directing programs, projects and activities that enhanced and supported the overall economic well-being of downtown Carson City. From inception to implementation of an aggressive street life program success includes a well established Saturday Morning Farmers Market, wintertime ice skating, festive signage and a number of other initatives that have put the town back into our downtown.Additionally, I developed and implement internal and external communications strategies for the Office of Business Development and other City departments to include message development, public relations and collateral development, production and distribution.

Through all stages of publication development for company-owned products, and client-driven products, I was responsible for business development, strategic planning, editorial budgeting, art planning, management of freelance contributors, editing, writing, production, resource budgeting, promotions and public relations.Regarding Carson Magazine specifically, we successfully grew the publication from its original 56 pages to 96, and I also helped pitch and land two major Custom Publishing Group client contracts (over $100k each), for which I then assumed the editorial and production role for both accounts.I also worked to cut costs from original estimates through high quality free lance writers and photographers, while maintaining and/or improving quality. Ultimately, Carson Magazine earned Western Publications Association (WPA) prestigious Maggie Award – finalist Best of Series of Articles, 2006.
