About Tamsin Lejeune

I am passionate about the potential for business to transform livelihoods, break the cycle of poverty, and positively impact the environment in communities all over the world. Growing up in Africa and working in the shanty towns and with SMEs in Cambodia, Kenya, Uganda, Guatemala, Bangladesh, and India opened my eyes: entrepreneurs (and intrapreneurs) with ideas, creativity, and drive are a powerful force for global change. Over the last two decades I have worked with thousands of professionals committed to doing business better. Despite the growing urgency of the climate crisis and the ingenuity of brand and supplier leaders pioneering best practices, for most businesses, sustainability is still a cost rather than an opportunity. Recent research by Capgemini* found that 79% of business leaders (across all business sectors) do not see a clear business case for operating sustainably. I founded the Common Objective (CO) platform to harness technology to create a business case for better practice across industry supply chains, and open doors to market for businesses that are changing lives. We now reach over 65,000 fashion industry members representing 28,000 businesses, and are expanding to other industry sectors. My sustainable business journey:2002: Founded Juste, a design led, fair trade fashion brand produced in Bangladesh2006: Founded the Ethical Fashion Forum: the not for profit industry body for sustainable fashion 2007-9: Partnered with the UN’s International Trade Centre to launch the ITC’s Ethical Fashion Initiative in the UK 2011-12: Launched SOURCE, the online platform for sustainable fashion 2016: Raised investment from industry to build the Common Objective (CO) platform2018: Launched Common Objective (CO) alongside a brilliant founding team2021: Partnered with the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) to launch circles on CO - increasing engagement and market access for fair trade suppliers2022: Reached 50,000 professional and business members on Common Objective (CO), partnered with UNHCR - Made51 - to further market access for refugee artisans2023: Partnered with the UN Global Compact Network UK and Digital Catapult, the UK authority on advanced digital technology, to accelerate business action towards the UN SDGs (And before that I was an architect…working for Habitat for Humanity and in the shanty towns of Phnom Penh)*A World in Balance: Why Sustainability Ambition is not Translating to Action, Capgemini, 2022

  • Common Objective
    Founder And Ceo
Common Objective Mar 2015 - Present
    London, United Kingdom
Common Objective (CO) is a technology company whose mission is to create a business case for sustainability. In 2018, CO launched a sourcing and intelligence platform for the fashion industry with the goals of supporting and incentivising sustainability best practice. The platform now reaches 65K members from 28K businesses, from H&M to the Kering Group, Nike, Pentland, Uniqlo, Inditex, and M&S, plus thousands of suppliers and SMEs. The platform curates content and training to the unique needs of each user, and rewards sustainable business practices through higher search rankings. The most sustainable suppliers and brands on the platform gain up to 5000% more views and customers than the least sustainable. As a result, up to 65% more businesses have gained the highest sustainability ranking on the platform year on year.CO has built partnerships with WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation), MADE51 (UNHCR’s platform changing lives for refugees through enterprise) and the UN Global Compact Network UK to accelerate business action on the UN SDGs and open doors to market for businesses that are pioneering best practice. Our vision is to catalyse a shift towards sustainable and ethical business practices globally.Since 2023 CO has been working in partnership with Digital Catapult, the UK authority on advanced digital technology, to power a Digital Supply Chain Hub, spanning multiple industry sectors and leveraging CO technology. The negative impact of industry on climate and biodiversity is accelerating, with "no credible pathway to 1.5°C in place” (UNEP Emissions Gap Report, 2022) Urgent action is needed by businesses across supply chains to address this. CO tech is designed to support any business or business network to accelerate action on the UN SDGs, creating clear commercial incentives for doing so. In 2023 CO was ranked no 11 in BusinessClouds UK top 50 most innovative retail tech firms, alongside Depop, Lyst, and Farfetch.www.commonobjective.co
  • Ethical Fashion Forum
    Founder And Ceo
Ethical Fashion Forum 2005 - Present
    London, United Kingdom
I founded the Ethical Fashion Forum (EFF) and its sister organisation, the Ethical Fashion Consultancy, when the sustainable fashion sector was in its infancy. We catalysed a movement and ran some of the first events in the space, including an annual sourcing Expo, summit and networking events uniting over 10,000 leaders and pioneers between 2005 and 2015. During this time I recruited and managed a strong, passionate and cohesive team and led an expert board. We delivered projects and training globally, in collaboration with leading bodies including the International Trade Centre, UNCTAD, the Commonwealth Foundation, the British Fashion Council, the BBC, and others. During a decade of growth I raised funding, built business models for and launched a raft of projects and initiatives as set out below. The concept for Common Objective (CO) came out of a partnership between EFF and the UN’s International Trade Centre, focused on changing lives through ethical fashion business in Africa. It was evident that there was a huge opportunity to use tech to leverage a global network and transform lives through business. From 2015 I took this vision to reality, raising over £1.5m investment from industry to develop CO from major backers such as Vivienne Westwood, Roland Mouret, and PDS Limited.Initiatives launched by the Ethical Fashion Forum 2006 - 2015: SOURCE Network: The first online sustainable fashion business communitySOURCE Database: The first sustainable sourcing database for fashionSOURCE Intelligence: The first B2B resource and training platform for sustainable fashionSOURCE Expo: The first sustainable sourcing trade show for fashion, in person and online SOURCE Brand Preview: The first B2B sustainable brand showcase, in person and online SOURCE Awards: Global Awards for Sustainable Fashion, putting the spotlight on best practice. A launchpad for many of today’s leading sustainable brandsSOURCE Summit: The first annual sustainable fashion conference
