There is a saying that reflects wisdom of ancient information seekers : “Knowledge is a point but the ignorant have multiplied it.” As a social science researcher I have always tried to approach the desire to know and make sense with this ancient wisdom. This has always inspired me to work interdisciplinary and the desire to reach the truth motivated an intense intellectual curiosity for different disciplines. Ultimately, these complex motivations led me to have what could be described as a hybrid expertise in the social sciences. Finance led me to geopolitics, geopolitics to geostrategy, and eventually I found myself developing products in data-driven intelligence studies and computational social sciences.I think that today's information technologies stretch the space-time possibilities that we are working on not only for data processing, but also for the whole perspective of social sciences. Shall we analyze the subject whose data we can access? Or will we collect data on the subject that needs to be analyzed? These are no longer the questions to be answered, and the modern dichotomies of social science methodology are incapable of making sense of the complexity we live in today.Today we need more asymmetrical and unexpected approaches, but with strong discipline. We need all-encompassing, non-linear understandings of patterns and issues, but without neglecting the destructive power of details. We need meta-heuristic approaches, but by being aware of the weaknesses and pitfalls of our minds. Finally we will go back to where we started, knowledge is a point the ignorant have multiplied it.
