I am a final year Chemical Engineering Student at Singapore Polytechnic. I am a current recipient of the A*STAR Science Award (Poly) and have been given the opportunity to work in A*STAR for my internship. I have chosen the bioprocessing and biotechnology sector in A*STAR and hope that my future experience in this sector as an intern will bring great benefits to the future bioprocessing industry should I be accepted into this institute. I am currently studying biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical engineering where I have learnt skills related to the bioprocessing industry.I have been involved with the Singapore Polytechnic Open House 2024 during the Industry and Innovation Showcase. Tuas presented a challenge that they were facing regarding the the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). My team took up this challenge outside of the curriculum and presented a potential solution during the Industry and Innovation Showcase. Through this, I have come to understand real case problems faced by industries and enhanced my problem solving skills.I have been involved with tutoring Engineering Mathematics and Physical and Organic Chemistry modules in Singapore Polytechnic where I worked with my tutees until they passed their modules. The positive feedback I received from them that they appreciated my patience and assistance made it all worthwhile. Through this, I picked up time management skills as I was juggling between my studies and tutoring.I have had leadership experiences in Leo Club and Chemical Engineering Student Chapters in Singapore Polytechnic. In Leo Club (a community service club), I was part of the planning committee for a carnival at Potong Pasir CC where I was the gamemaster. The carnival was catered to the elderly who were regulars at the CC. In Chemical Engineering Student Chapters, I was also part of the planning committee as a gamemaster during the Freshmen Orientation Programme (FOP). In both clubs, I faced similar difficulties during event planning. When I proposed the games and materials required, the finance department couldn't afford the price, so I had to make sound judgements and compromised. Through event planning in these 2 clubs, I have enhanced my abilities to make sound judgements, team collaboration and communication, and deliver high-quality results. Despite the difficulties faced, I am proud to say that the carnival and FOP were successful events.
