I graduated with Dean's Honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Double Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Language and Culture & Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies and studied one of my undergraduate years at the Universidad de Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras where I took graduate level courses and held a 4.0 the entire academic year. Following graduation, I was accepted into the AmeriCorps program, Teach for America. I was placed in the Phoenix Valley teaching at a Dual Language College Preparatory elementary school. I worked in education for 7 years teaching in a dual language classroom as the Spanish instructor and doing English Language Learner testing. At the same time I taught, I worked in the translation and transcription field as a Spanish-English linguist for a variety of government agencies doing live translations and audio transcriptions in a high-intensity environment. I did linguist work for 6 years with the same organization.I then was able to blend my experience with translations and transcriptions and Spanish and my desire to help people and took a position with the Maricopa County Superior Court of Arizona doing legal document translations. I was able to help provide access to justice for people who were self-represented in their legal processes. I worked with the Maricopa County Court system doing translations and helping litigants complete and file their own documents for three and a half years and truly enjoyed every day there. In 2019, the military sent my family to Oklahoma where I was able to get back into education. I am now the ELL Curriculum and Instruction Specialist for the largest school district in Oklahoma. I help ensure that our district is in state and federal compliance regarding the identification and testing of our English Language Learner students. I also provide professional development for teachers and other staff members regarding the legal requirements and best teaching practices for our EL students while at the same time providing support and guidance to the EL families so they are able to navigate the US school system with more ease.
