I am an Inuvialuk entrepreneur originally from Sachs Harbour, Northwest Territories. In 2019, my brother and I purchased a set of vintage fibre mill machines from a closing-down business in Alaska. I then founded Qiviut Inc., a 100% Inuit-owned small business that has the distinction of being one of the only fibre mills operating in Alberta. My small but skilled team manufactures high-quality qiviut yarns, knitwear, and 'Nuna Heat' hand warmers–and also runs Arctic Indulgence, a boutique featuring Indigenous-made crafts.

Qiviut Inc. was founded in 2019 when Tanis Simpson (Inuvialuk) and her brother Bradley Carpenter purchased a second-hand mini fibre mill that was going out of business. Today, we source muskoxen hides from hunters in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (NWT), comb out the qiviut fibre by hand, and then process it at our mill in Nisku, Alberta. We also sell Inuit-made jewelry and other accessories at our mill storefront, Arctic Indulgence.
