I never thought I would be running a landscape and robotic mowing business. My biggest achievement before this was Bid Managing (with a fabulous team of experts in their field) and subsequently winning a PFI bid to secure a £750m Waste Facility for Barnsley, Doncaster & Rotherham Joint Consortium. Following a successful, 20-year career in project and bid management in both the postal and waste industries, however, the opportunity to help start up and run a thriving landscaping business presented itself and drew me in. I became very quickly enthralled with what ‘landscaping’ had to offer and over the years I have not only learned about employing people, cashflows and finance, I have also learned how to use our John Deere tractor, all the ride-on mowers, and other tools, which has been quite an education! And I challenge anyone to deny the joy of seeing well-presented green spaces in parks, gardens, around buildings and alongside roads & pavements.The knowledge from project and bid management is still helpful in setting up and running both commercial and domestic contracts, as well as ad hoc projects. They all require the same attention to detail and a genuine interest in getting things right for our clients - we all want our green spaces to look neat, tidy and inviting. Having now also developed years of experience with robotic mowing, I’m very hands-on throughout the growing season, advising on and installing robotic mowing solutions for homeowners, commercial and sport sites. It’s great to see how these robots free up time for ground staff and homeowners, in addition to giving that fresh cut look every day. It’s even better when you revisit a few weeks later and see what an amazing difference they have made to the condition of the grass in such a short space of time.Away from work I’m busy managing an over energetic cockapoo who craves exercise and attention and has developed a love for agility!!
