I co-founded Ecoprods with my batchmate during my time at the Young India Fellowship at Ashoka University. The vision was to democratize the supply of eco-friendly alternatives to plastic products by creating an online B2B marketplace. We conducted qualitative and quantitative market research, identified user personas, created a proof of concept, built the MVP, and tested it. The hypothesis was that the economy of scale would lower the price of the product, making it a customer magnet on its own. However, the hypothesis proved to be wrong, as the volume order was not inversely proportional to the cost of manufacturing, unlike many other products. And the cost reduction that we were able to achieve weren't substantial enough for the customers to switch from the plastic alternatives.We decided to stall the startup after the MVP testing because it failed to create intrinsic user value without initial cash burn.
