As an undergraduate research fellow, I engaged in scholastic research. These projects were student-driven, with the assistance of a faculty mentor. URF required students to conduct their own literature review, experiment design, ensure compliance with IRB regulations, conduct any interventions required, conduct preliminary data analysis, and authoring of papers. Through this program, I worked on projects to see how individual's polarization affects their likeliness to believe fake news; the relationship between the right to free speech under Brandenburg v. Ohio relates to politicians' speech; and an attempt to look at how members of juries as veto players help to define what the law means. With this, I have presented these results at my University's research days. In addition, professors suggested students turn to me for initial questions related to their research projects and how to best proceed.Additionally, while completing the competitive Summer Student Research Program, I in singular summer completed, from writing the initial proposal to sending my paper off for publication, a research project on how individuals’ beliefs in protestors engaging in a Lockean right to rebel affect their support for the January 6th insurrection. I have since presented this project at the March 2022 Western Political Science Confrence in Portland, Oregon. This paper was additionally published in a peer-reviewed journal. Butler, T. (2022). Intern in the office of Congressman Adrian Smith. In this role, I served as a point of contact for constituent contact at the office, directed tours of the United States Capitol, attended hearings and briefings, and assisted in research projects.

As an intern at the Buffalo County Attorney's office, I followed the attorneys to understand their duties and thought processes for serving as prosecutors. Throughout this experience, I gained insights into the perspective of prosecutors, assisted with trial preparation, began preliminary research for jury selection, and assembled discovery packets.
