Microbiology Lab Intern
During his internship with BYU microbiology lab, Tanner worked with Dr. David Erickson and Dr. Eric Wilson on researching E. coli. This was his first lab experience, thus, he learned all of lab basics and procedural methods. More specifically, he learned different plating methods, how to accurately pipette, incubation procedures, agar mixture creation, and the making and usage of polymerase chain reactions (PCR). After learning these skills, he compared the genetic compositions of E. coli in domestic and wild turkeys. Through 30 PCR tests and their respective gel electrophoresis analyses, he presented his work to significant researchers in the lab, including Dr. David Erickson and Dr. Eric Wilson.
