Tanner served as a resident assistant in both Stanford's art-themed dorm, Burbank, and Duan, an independent living dorm. In these roles, he oversaw and provided support to over 350 students. Through weekly on-call activities, large-scale events, and mindfulness practices, he connected with students on a personal level. He also organized several off-campus events, including a trip to Great America, a San Francisco Scavenger Hunt, a Verve brunch outing, and a screening of The Little Mermaid.

Tanner led the peer advising team at the Haas Center, which is dedicated to linking students to Cardinal Service — the Haas Center's vision of public service. He launched a campaign that centered specific identities during relevant calendar periods (i.e., LGBTQ+ content during Pride month), which received the most engagement on their platform in its history. Moreover, Tanner organized content for their weekly newsletter in HootSuite and MailChimp. Finally, Tanner worked on the development team and generated a donor letter.

In this role, he managed ten sale locations on campus, distributed 20 cases of Red Bull biweekly, planned on-campus events, and partnered with leadership groups on campus. Through his partnerships, he maximized his on-campus partnerships and contributed to Red Bull's colossal reach on university campuses. In fact, Tanner's marketing work assisted Red Bull to be the number one drink in sales in the Bay Area during his term.

During the start of Tanner's college career amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, he worked with the start-up Amigo in hopes of fostering friendships at Stanford and beyond despite the current circumstances. As an original student ambassador, he helped launch the app at Stanford through marketing, development, and content creation. He helped run the Amigo's Instagram, Tik Tok page, on-campus promotion, and campus expansion. In his time on the social media team, he was the student ambassador with the most engagement and was able to recruit over 100 students. Moreover, he aimed to expand Amigo's reach to universities outside of Stanford. Consequently, whilst on the expansion team he expanded Amigo to four universities. Unfortunately, Tanner stopped working as a student ambassador for Amigo when the app failed after demands had been met.

At USEE, Tanner worked with director, Alex Porpora, on non-profit development, networking, and planning. Through his outreach, he connected USEE with over one hundred non-profits and environmental education experts. Moreover, as USEE continued to develop, Tanner organized the organization's data and connections with numerous spreadsheets; one project he pioneered was an extensive spreadsheet with key information for 600 Utah schools. Not only this, but he helped plan USEE's virtual conference in November 2020, including designing 6 advertising campaigns and the conference's PowerPoint presentation. Finally, he worked with Alex on the long-term goal of creating Utah's first environmental literacy plan.

During his internship with BYU microbiology lab, Tanner worked with Dr. David Erickson and Dr. Eric Wilson on researching E. coli. This was his first lab experience, thus, he learned all of lab basics and procedural methods. More specifically, he learned different plating methods, how to accurately pipette, incubation procedures, agar mixture creation, and the making and usage of polymerase chain reactions (PCR). After learning these skills, he compared the genetic compositions of E. coli in domestic and wild turkeys. Through 30 PCR tests and their respective gel electrophoresis analyses, he presented his work to significant researchers in the lab, including Dr. David Erickson and Dr. Eric Wilson.
