About Tanner James

You know what the biggest problem with business is? There’s no simple playbook to follow. What happens when you don’t have a playbook? You don’t have a plan. What happens when you don’t have a plan? The business fails and you aren’t able to achieve your dreams. This is where I come in.Helping entrepreneurs achieve their dreams is something that drives me. In my role at Capitalism.com, I serve and coach thousands of business owners worldwide. The impact we have on entrepreneurs is insane… To sum it up: 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. I’ve had an unconventional career path - I built a business, sold it, then started working at another company. Yet, this experience is a huge advantage because it makes me an ‘Intrapreneur.’Specifically, I geek out over and excel in two areas:𝟭. 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗧𝗩 & 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆: if you provide a world-class experience where customers return again and again and encourage them to buy more products from you, they will market for you.𝟮. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀: if you get the right people together and rally them around a great cause, they’ll overcome any challenge they face.If you nail those two areas in business, you’ll be able to do something pretty cool... you’ll be able to turn your business dreams into a reality. If you want to geek out about business together, DM me and we can chat!

    Scottsdale, Arizona, Us
My time as a Director of Customer Success can be broken down into two simple phases: Build & Turnaround. 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟭: 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱From the ground up, I helped build a consulting program that turned struggling gym owners into successful entrepreneurs. Most gyms in our program started with us breaking even and struggling to grow. After 12 months in our program, the average gym grew its revenue by 108%. This led to extremely high retention (96%+) and a high NPS score of 83. 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟮: 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱After the success from the consulting side, I was tasked with turning around the company's other division, the marketing agency. When I took over, monthly churn was 20%+ and the team’s morale was low. In less than 6 months, I recruited a whole new team and created a high-performing culture. The result was a tight-knit, 25+ person team with a low 6% customer churn (3x better than the industry average).
  • Loud Rumor
    Senior Marketing Account Manager
    Loud Rumor Jul 2019 - Aug 2020
    Scottsdale, Arizona, Us
As an account manager, I simultaneously worked with over 60 small business owners on their paid social marketing. Meta and Google ad spend was over $125k monthly. Lead flow was phenomenal. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺…It didn’t matter how many leads I produced…Gym owners struggled to run successful businesses. Simply because they didn’t have a solid playbook. That's when I changed roles and helped build Loud Rumor’s consulting program as the Director of Customer Success.

As the DJ business grew, many DJs asked what I was doing and how they could do it too.My entrepreneurial spirit saw an opportunity here.So I launched an online training program for DJs. The program taught them marketing, sales, and general business strategies to grow their business. And it worked. Many DJs even quit their full-time jobs to start DJing full-time. They were able to marry a hobby/passion and career, which was very fulfilling to see. That's when I learned I love helping small business owners and entrepreneurs.

I couldn’t find a job, so I created one. And turned it into something pretty cool. When I started DJing, I took any gig I could. House parties, weddings, Sweet 16s…But with these events, there was no recurring revenue. This was a stressful way to run a business because I never knew when my next paycheck would come. So I changed my approach. I only focused on school dances. Instead of being the cheap DJ company, we had a different strategy. We partnered with schools and helped make their school dances super profitable. This was because…If the dances were fun, more students would attend (5x more students came on average). If more students came, they could increase their prices (on average they increased their prices by 4-5x).So now, our schools are making 20x more than before. And no other DJ companies were doing this. This strategy led to a whole lot of talk. This allowed us to ethically charge 5-15x more than the average DJ company. And we grew like crazy. That’s how this became one of the largest DJ companies in the country.
