I find teaching agricultural economics and agribusiness incredibly rewarding. My favorite part of my job is bringing in real world applications of economic theory and business strategy into the classroom. Whether it is using a current news article to highlight an economic concept or collaborating with a local agribusiness firm to solve a real problem through a course project, I strive to make the material as hands on as possible. I also enjoy the research component of my career. My research is motivated by the philosophy that to be successful in American agriculture, producers need to either be big or different. This philosophy has pushed me into the study of numerous specialty food product markets including hemp, Miscanthus, wine, and aquaponic fish and vegetables. I am especially interested in conducting firm strategy and policy analysis in these types of markets through the use of of agricultural contracting, dynamic optimization and network theory.
