As a TA for Organic Chemistry I & II, I held weekly group discussions, course material reviews, and personal office hours. I also graded exams and assignments in addition to exam proctoring. Weekly group discussions consisted of 10 students working under an assigned TA to complete a problem set. Being actively involved in my students' success was an incredibly fulfilling challenge. I loved to experience that "aha!" moment when a student overcame their frustration and grasped a challenging concept. Working with a diverse group of students allowed me to develop a versatile communication style.

Glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins (GPI-APs) constitute 10-20% ofsurface proteins and play important roles in various signaling pathways. However, their regulatory mechanism is poorly understood. I tested whether GDE enzymes, the only known GPI-sheddases on the plasma membrane, releases various GPI-APs. I have shown that GDE3 facilitates the release of CNTFR, Tectorins, and NCAM1. I created expression constructs for GPI- and transmembrane- isoforms of the Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule 1 (NCAM1) from mouse brain RNA sample. I also performed image analyses to determine the role of GDE enzyme in synaptogenesis.

This position helped me improve my interpersonal skills as I learned how to offer comfort to patients experiencing pain and distress as I transported them to and from the OR, ER, hospital floor, and PACU. Basic Aseptic Technique Certification allowed me to become well experienced in sterile scrub, gown and glove, and field technique by holding forceps and providing suction for general, orthopedic, obstetric and gynecologic surgeries. I was also trained to assist urologists when operating Holmium and CO2 lasers. These responsibilities improved my manual dexterity and taught me how to act clearly and objectively in emergency situations.My duties as an anesthesia technician allowed me to learn proper use and care of GE Datex Ohmeda Aestiva/5 anesthesia machine. By assisting physicians with intubations, nerve blocks, and other anesthetic procedures, I was able to gain meaningful experience in the field of anesthesiology.
